Urban PDX: $15k Discounts Typical in the $500k Price Range

How much of a discount can buyers in the +$500k category expect to get away with? A look at the median difference between list price and closing price (over the last six months) for NE, Inner SE and the Pearl District confirms that slashing the asking price for homes in the +$500k category by about $15k seems to be about right.

Bear in mind $15k represents the median discount for ALL buyers surveyed. Several buyers managed to squeeze out larger discounts. In fact, roughly a third of all buyers in the sub-markets outlined above got away with more than $25k, and some a savvy 10% (or more for the Pearl) achieved discounts in excess of $40k.
